Delhi Customs Seize 26 iPhone 16 Pro Max from Woman Passenger Arriving from Hong Kong
New Delhhi: Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized 12 iPhone 16 Pro Max units from four passengers attempting to smuggle them into India, according to a statement released on Thursday.
The incident took place on October 1, 2024, when the passengers landed at IGI Airport aboard Indigo flight 6E-1464 from Dubai. The Delhi customs department shared details of the seizure on their official ‘X’ account, stating: “Customs@IGI Airport seized 12 iPhone 16 Pro Max from a group of four passengers attempting to smuggle the devices from Dubai via Indigo flight 6E-1464.”
The iPhone 16 Pro Max, which represents the top-end model of Apple’s newest smartphone range, was officially launched globally just last month.
This is the second significant smuggling attempt involving these high-end phones in recent days. On the same day, customs officials intercepted a woman arriving from Hong Kong and confiscated 26 iPhone 16 Pro Max units hidden in a vanity bag. The devices were wrapped in tissue paper to avoid detection.
The customs department confirmed that the woman, believed to be in her late thirties, was stopped for a thorough baggage search, leading to the recovery of the concealed smartphones.
